I am so happy that I read this book. I absolutely love the character of Evelyn Hugo. This story is so captivating you will feel like you’re right there going through Evelyn’s life with her. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid was the happiest surprise I have received all year. I had no idea about this book or how amazing it was going to be. We start out with Monique, a writer for a magazine, being called into her bosses office and reluctantly given the task to meet and do an article on Evelyn Hugo. Evelyn is a famous movie star that made her fame in the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s. Evelyn was an icon, the “it girl”. She meets with Monique and wants Monique to do more than write an article she wants a full biography book about her secrets that no one has ever gotten. Monique’s big question is with seven husbands who holds Evelyn’s heart? Evelyn dives into her entire life from being in Hell’s Kitchen and finding a way to move to L.A. to climb to the top, more than once, and become a star. Evelyn is the kind of woman people aspire to be. She is strong, confident, resilient, goes for anything she wants, does whatever it takes, and, of course, drop dead, head turning gorgeous. You can’t help but admire this character. I was swept away by Evelyn’s life and could not stop reading. Evelyn will make you laugh, cry, hate her, and adore her. Through everything Evelyn will make you want to be her. This says so much about the writing of this book. Evelyn openly admits to not being a good person, she uses people, she uses her body and yet you want to be exactly like Evelyn Hugo. She is portrayed so well that you forget that she isn’t a real person. This book is easily one of my top favorites and will be reread plenty of times. I could not put Evelyn’s story down and you won’t be able to either.
