Are You On The List?

How does a lavish wedding on a remote island with privileged schoolboys, an uptight bride, and guests with their own emotional baggage turn out? Well, The Guest List by Lucy Foley has an answer. This novel caught my eye when it was time to pick my book subscription in April and I am a sucker for a good thriller. The sex is steamy, the emotions are high, and their pasts are more complicated than you can guess. I also love books with character flipping between each chapter, it keeps them fast paced and interesting. Then add in the time jump between the day before and the day of the wedding, while knowing something bad happened but not being able to figure out how or to whom. This book is easily set up to be a good page turner. It starts off with a slow build, just teasing you with breadcrumbs to keep you trekking along. Until you finally reach a twist and it snowballs down a mountain. It will have you picking your jaw up off the floor just to have you drop it all over again. Now this is a very intriguing book with an array of great characters. It really dives deep into the darkness of people and how you never know what you are capable of until presented with the opportunity. Every character is a suspect and every character have something dark inside them and you will never guess who acts on it until it happens. The only complaint is the ending was a little bit of a letdown, it had such a good build up and then just plateaued. I would have liked to know what happened to everyone, but a good book should leave you wanting more.

Favorite Quote – “Marriage is about finding that person you know best in the world. Not how they take their coffee or what their favorite film is or the name of their first cat. It’s knowing on a deeper level. It’s knowing their soul.”

Have you read this book? If so, how did you like the ending?
