Pride or Prejudice?
The author reflects on their admiration for the Keira Knightley film adaptation of “Pride and Prejudice” and their recent visit to Chatsworth, a filming location. After overcoming initial intimidation, they appreciated Jane Austen’s writing and its commentary on societal shortcomings, while praising its portrayal of a slow-burn love story.
Listen for the Lie: A Gripping Thriller Review
“And people hate that quality in a young woman, don’t they? They don’t know what to do with a girl who isn’t looking for their approval. They feel like they have to bring her down a peg.”
Does Anyone Know Everything?
We always feel like we are the only ones that have felt or done something and sometimes that can be a lonely feeling, but Dolly helps you remember you’re not alone. This is a fun lighthearted read, but also touches on things that are darker and more difficult. Dolly sprinkles in fun anecdotes, along with some recipes (that I will be trying), and some good o’nostalgia. If you’re feeling you may be at a standstill in life or that you are transitioning and don’t really know where your direction is, this will help you feel seen. This could also be a read that you do because you want to remember your good times, your friends, and that you will figure it all out.
War, Love, and Family
I never know what to expect out of historical novels because in some cases I can find them quite boring. Kristin Hannah turns historical fiction into a masterpiece. Just like The Four Winds, once I started the Nightingale, I just could not stop. This book follows two sisters during the time of WWII and the very different journeys they have during this time.
Can You Unravel the Past?
Have you ever read a book and just thought “wow that was weird,” but in a good way? Well, None of This is True by Lisa Jewell will definitely have you thinking just that. As someone who loves thriller and mystery, I can usually say I am pretty good at guessing endings to books like just this. This story unfolds in such a way it feels like you don’t know what way is up and what way is down. You will guess and maybe part of it will be right, but I am still wondering what the truth is.
What Do You Make of His Story?
The story kicks off with giving you the knowledge that during this lavish vacation there is a murder and with that a murderer. What you don’t know is how our narrator, Elliot, gets you to that point and who this murderer is. You quickly find out how messy their lives are and how each person really has the potential to be the murderer. Each one has a motive, each one has the opportunity, but what you find out is not to trust everything you read.
The Human Spirit
I am honestly shocked how much I loved The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah. I mean I put this book off for YEARS thinking I would find it boring. After picking it up (and dusting it off) I opened to the first page and was hooked. Now, when I say hooked, I mean I readContinue reading “The Human Spirit”
A Court of?
So, after getting told repeatedly, I finally read A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas. I mean wow I flew through this book, I could not put it down. Along the same lines, I couldn’t put the whole series down, but to avoid spoilers I will talk mostly of book one. There is no way I could encompass the greatness of this series in one review or even multiple, so please know there is so much more than just what I’m about to write.
What Do You Believe?
I know Verity by Colleen Hoover is not a new book find. To be honest, I loved It Ends With Us, but I was worried Verity wouldn’t live up to it or they would be exactly the same. This was not the case, this was an entirely new story, that was just as good, if not better, in my eyes. There are so many times you will second guess yourself on what you believe. There isn’t a moment during or after the book that I was sure I knew what happened.
